Who We Are
Choosing a therapy provider can be intimidating and overwhelming. We want to take the guesswork out of the process for you and help you understand what you will find when you come to Advent.
Advent Therapy Associates is a multidisciplinary team of professionals with varied areas of expertise including speech therapy, occupational therapy, feeding, behavior, lactation, nutrition, vision, and audiology. Children at Advent have the advantage of receiving care from multiple professions in one location. Perhaps more importantly, the Advent team routinely collaborates with each other to provide a united approach to each child’s care.
What We're About
At Advent, we believe therapy is most effective when it is done in an environment that is natural and authentic to childhood. We strive to create such a space for all of our clients so that the therapy received more easily translates into the real world around them.
We do not provide group therapy, but children are often intentionally grouped with other children during their therapy sessions. This is done in an effort to create a “real-life” context, or as close as we can get. Children’s struggles do not occur in a vacuum. They are evident on the playground, at school, and at home. Speech, movement, feeding, and behavior concerns must be addressed in “real” environments for real results.
Our therapy takes place in a restored old house where we work hard to create a welcoming home-like environment. We sit around our kitchen table for snack time. We have “play time” in the backyard. We do crafts together, learn together, sing songs, and play. Kids interact with each other. All under the direction of therapists who are implementing appropriate therapeutic strategies to help each child move towards meeting their individual goals.
What We Do
We also offer a unique selection of enrichment options for our clients who are currently receiving therapy. Enrichment options include music lessons, art lessons, yoga, and more. Parents can choose to pay extra for these services. Professional teachers then join the therapy session and therapy continues with the desired activity as the backdrop. This affords many children the opportunity to explore activities they otherwise might not have access to and also helps to provide a preferred and engaging setting for therapy.
